Civil registers produced by the parishes of the Ljubljana Archdiocese and the Novo Mesto Diocese held by NŠAL are available online:

Civil registers and indexes thereto that contain data more recent than one hundred years are not available online.

Every year, NŠAL receives civil registers over one hundred years old from administrative units.

NŠAL holds many original family registers (status animarum, SA) as well as a collection of digitized SAs, further containing numerous parish SAs that were originally held by parishes. The digital collection is regularly updated and available on computers in NŠAL’s reading room.

All inventories of civil registers and SAs are kept in NŠAL’s reception hall.

Copies of civil registers from 1835 onward are not available. They may only be viewed for study purposes by prior request or for individual data in the presence of the archive’s professional staff.

The use of civil registers and SAs is governed by the Regulations on the Use of Material from the Diocesan Archives of the Catholic Church, passed at the session of the Slovenian Bishops’ Conference on May 8th, 2017.
